In today's Gospel Jesus teaches us that God created the human race in his own image and likeness. Marriage is as old as humankind. When God created Adam and Eve, they were with each other, not only in practice, but also in the spiritual plane. God created marriage as a covenant which a man and a woman pledge themselves to each other, exclusively, for the whole of life. And we cannot change this. Nobody can change God’s plan. Original sin destroyed the solidarity of these two people. Since this moment, sin is everywhere and man experiences evil all around himself. This experience also affects the relationship between a man and a woman. At all times, their relationship is threatened by discord, infidelity and jealousy, that can lead to anger and hatred andthe breakup of their marriage.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that God in his mercy has not abandoned sinful man. He sent His Son to earth. He gave us assistance in the Sacraments and Commandments. Marriage is a way to heaven, because it helps us to overcome focusing on oneself. It helps us to open up to another person, for mutual support and self-giving. Marriage unites spouses in heart, mind and body.
The nature of marriage, between a man and a woman, is established by the Creator as the foundation of the family, which in turn becomes the first and basic building block of a healthy society. Marriage promotes the nurturing of children who need the constant love, attention, and guidance of their mothers and fathers to reach their fullest potential. The Sacrament of marriage is a communion of two people, appointed by God. This is a fundamental unit of the Church. Assistance in building a relationship in marriage is the Eucharist.Married life is always a very difficult relationship. Is it possible to realize these ideals, which the bride and groom promise to one another? With the help of God and His grace- yes. Let us pray for our parish, for married couples and their families, that they always keep Christ as the center of their lives.
